Kansas Insurance chief praised by U.S. Senate aging panel
Kansas Insurance Commissioner Fletcher Bell earns praise from Sen. Claude Pepper for aggressive actions against insurance abuses targeting elderly residents. Pepper’s Select Committee on Aging commended Bell’s department as hardworking and progressive while Bell stresses Kansas actions preceded federal attention and cites penalties and refunds obtained for victims. Bell warned insurers last July to stop sales abuses and cited a Pioneer Life case with a $5,000 fine. He offered to aid the committee and provide results of Kansas investigations despite travel constraints.
