Palmer Tops PGA Tour Money for Year in Mobile

Arnold Palmer, age 34 from Ligonier Pennsylvania, became the PGA Tour’s top money winner for a single year by winning the Mobile Open. The victory earned $2,000, boosting his official circuit earnings to $73,716.19, surpassing Ted Kroll’s 1956 record of $72,835.83 after 25 events with 8 wins and 16 top fives. Sam Snead holds the pro circuit term record with nine wins in 1950.
