Wind powered homes eyed in Franklin County proposal
Franklin County commissioners will weigh a special use permit for Karen McVey to install a 30 foot wind generator and tower on Shawnee Road near Appanoose. Planning Director Larry Walrod said it triggers the need to review county wind generator rules, the first formal request in Franklin County for a small home wind system. The cost and maintenance drop make such systems feasible in light winds and potentially self sustaining in about five years. The American Wind Energy Association notes these small systems power homes and businesses.
