Judge upholds conviction in highway deaths near Ottawa
Lawrence AP A Douglas County judge upheld the conviction and 26 year sentence of Ramona Morgan for killing two highway workers on U.S. 59 north of Ottawa in 2007. The court found some minor errors by counsel did not affect the jury decision. Morgan argued ineffective counsel and excessive sentence. Witnesses testified she drove around a pilot car twice in a work zone on September 11 2007 and struck two workers the second time. Law enforcement punctured her pickup tires after a chase to stop her. Earliest parole date 2030.
