Hadl Tops Two Departments In Big Eight Figures

Kansas quarterback John Hadl leads the Big Eight in pass completions and punting averages. Donnie Smith tops two departments for punt returns and scoring with 13 touchdowns and 78 points. Missouri’s Donnie Smith also leads in punt returns and scoring. Colorado’s Gale Weidner and Oklahoma State’s Dave Hannah vie for other top spots as league play wraps.

USC Coach McKay too nervous to pep talk before UCLA game

In Los Angeles, USC coach John McKay said he was so nervous that he could not give his players a pep talk before the UCLA clash. Assistants gave pregame speeches as USC, the underdog, fell 17 to 6 to UCLA on Saturday. McKay recalled he could not remember what the assistants said.

Three Coaches Named For 23rd Blue Gray Game

In Montgomery Alabama Blue Gray officials announce the Gray team coaches for the 23rd annual game on December 31. Paul Dietzel LSU Wallace Butts Georgia and Bill Hildebrand Wake Forest will coach the Gray squad. Also named are top passers Francis Tarkenton Georgia Jerry Eiseman Kentucky and Norman Snead Wake Forest joining the South roster.
