College basketball brief notes Ottawa plays Benedictine at Benedictine Missouri on Saturday at 8 p.m. The prior Tuesday Ottawa visits Haskell in Michigan for a 7 30 p.m. tipoff.
The Associated Press reports major signings and roster moves across MLB NBA and NL teams. Ellis Burks agreed to a three year deal with the Cleveland Indians while Ichiro Suzuki joined the Seattle Mariners on a three year contract. Tim Worrell was traded to the Giants from the Cubs for Bill Mueller, and Russ Davis signed a one year pact with San Francisco. Derick Coleman Colaman and Terrence Roberson moved on and off the Hornets injured list, while the Clippers added Zendon Hamilton and Brian Skinner to or from the injured list. Michael Stewart activated by the Raptors.
HURON, M.D. Ottawa University’s NAIA playoff run ended with a 47-17 loss at Tiger Stadium in Huron to No. 8 Sioux. The Braves offense stalled while Huron produced big plays including Jeff Mikowski’s 58 yard TD, Artis Bishop’s 44 yard TD pass and 63 yard run, and Ray Tiller’s 81 yard score. Coach Creighton cited the inability to generate offensive breaks despite inches from big plays. Ottawa had first half chances but the defense struggled to contain the Screaming Eagles.
Ottawa University Lady Braves rise to 3 1 with an 82 71 win over Graceland at Wilson Field House. Angie Bandstra scores a career best 30 points and grabs 18 rebounds, tying for sixth in OU single game records. Manning adds 14 as OU hits 29 of 38 free throws to seal the victory.
Ottawa University losses to MidAmerica Nazarene 83 82 on Friday with Dan Fleming free throws in final seconds and a 74 71 defeat by Baker on Saturday. OU led 77 66 in season opener, four players in double figures, Bulmer 21 points. Baker 88 51 over Haskell Friday, MidAmerica 119 59 over Haskell Saturday.
Rob Johnson sparked Buffalo with a 12 yard fourth quarter TD run that overturned an earlier out of bounds call, securing a 21-17 victory over Kansas City. Johnson passed for 196 yards with two touchdowns while rushing 42 yards as Buffalo moved to 7-4 and kept wild card hopes alive. Kansas City, now 5-6, must win its final five games.
