Ottawa led early but could not slow Haskell as the Indians shot well and built a 47-41 halftime edge. Chase Dippel scored a season-best 24 and Corey Smith added 22 for Ottawa, which committed 12 turnovers and faced defensive lapses as Haskell pulled away late. Ottawa (1-5) hosts Mount Mercy and Iowa Wesleyan in upcoming games.
Ottawa University Lady Braves defeated Haskell 68 to 53 at Wilson Field with strong defense and improved offense. Paige Gibson led with 18 points while Amber Ramsey added a double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds as Shau na McClure and Morgan Boore contributed 13 and 9 points respectively. Ottawa forced 21 turnovers and finished with 21 assists, edging the Indians in rebounds 40 to 31 and setting up a road game at Columbia Friday at 7 p.m.
A standout player secured a second team 3A honor as the squad advances in the tournament. Teammates also earned recognition, marking strong overall performance for the program.
Kansas City faces a quarterback controversy as Matt Cassel is benched and Kyle Orton, Casey, or Tyler Palko weighs in. Palko says his focus is on earning time and proving himself, not dwelling on past mistakes or the benching situation.
