Wolf Creek protest at plant ends with eleven arrests
During a weekend protest at the Wolf Creek nuclear plant, Coffey County deputies and state troopers arrested 11 demonstrators on trespassing charges. The Kansans Natural Guard sought to plant cottonwood trees and wheat on KG and E land related to the $2 billion facility slated for 1984. The event marked the seventh anniversary of Karen Silkwood's death. Two Lawrence men were also arrested after a candlelight vigil near a cemetery. Three arrestees were jailed in Franklin County and refuse bond while awaiting Coffey County District Court.
