Fed cuts half point as further cuts loom in recession attempt
The Federal Reserve lowered the federal funds rate by a half point to 2.0 percent, the lowest since 1961, with a third such cut this year. Economists foresee another move, possible 0.5 or 0.25 points, as markets rally and consumer spending falters amid post 9/11 jitters and rising unemployment.
