Ottawa Middle School and local groups plan a community Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 30 p m on Thanksgiving Day at Ottawa High School with turkey and ham for about 600 people The event is coordinated by OMS sixth grade teacher Nancy Baylor and OMS staff with support from churches The Hope House will donate turkey and many volunteers will help including Middle School students and food service staff and the VFW Post 5901 will host its own meal as a separate event

They seek 500 signatures from registered city voters by a Dec 18 filing, arguing voters should decide financing for a new swimming pool and related projects.

Southwest Kansas leads the nation in farm subsidy dollars and recipients per Environmental Working Group analysis for 1996 to 2000. Top 10 percent received over 61 percent of subsidies with average payments around 196000, while bottom 90 percent got about 42 percent with average about 14700. Kansas total subsidies reach 4.60 billion. 80,000 related jobs exist. Kansas ranked fifth in market sales.
