The AZ economy slowed sharply in the first quarter, with GDP at a 2.7 percent annual rate, the Commerce Department said. The revision from 2.8 percent reflects slower business inventories, though consumer spending and investment rose modestly. GDP increased $36.2 billion annualized, down from $66.8 billion in Q4 1994.

Analysts note caution from weaker jobs growth, with first four months of 1994 down 14 percent from a year earlier, while inventory rose to 350,000.
