Fairbanks Aims Fresh Take On My Fair Lady

Hollywood notes Douglas Fairbanks Jr. remains a romantic figure as he returns from London to star in a 15 week Civic Light Opera revival of My Fair Lady in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He pursued a fresh approach by consulting George Bernard Shaw notes and tested the role in St Louis Dallas and Atlanta before settling in Beverly Hills to manage affairs. He cites a dry spell and rising costs as reasons for stepping away from acting, focusing on business and public affairs rather than a new TV series.

Memorial Day traffic deaths surge with record toll

The first day of the Memorial Day weekend saw a rising highway death toll with 205 killed on roads, nine in boating accidents, and 63 drowned in non boating incidents. The National Safety Council had estimated 550 to 650 fatalities across the long weekend. Howard Pyle linked the grim toll to societal risk despite the Apollo 10 mission progress.
