Homemade Jelly Goes To Market From Colony
Mrs. Pansy Newton started selling jelly from wild fruits three years ago after a son-in-law urged market entry. Her Kansas kitchen passed state and federal health reviews for interstate commerce. Eleven varieties include wild grape, plum and mulberry and demand up to Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Montana, Colorado, Utah and California. Local sourcing along Deer Creek supports a growing operation with plans to hire farm women to expand production and marketing outreach.

GOP Wins Could Force Postelection Congress
Washington AP reports that heavy Democratic losses in 1966 elections could trigger a postelection session of Congress this year. If Democrats lose 15 to 20 House seats they may retain control but lose voting power on Great Society legislation. With adjournment aimed by October, many incumbents fear unpopular votes and possible defeats before November 8. A post election session could be called to push Johnson’s remaining bills, while lame duck Democrats face uncertain futures.
