County Attorney Pushes Elective Judges In Fourth District
Franklin County and five other counties in the Fourth Judicial District would see judges elected rather than appointed under a petition drive led by County Attorney Wendell Barker. He seeks a November 1982 ballot measure demanding voter election of district court judges to replace the non partisan selection system. Barker cites rising crime and insufficient sentences as motives and aims to collect 1,112 signatures, about 5 percent of the 1978 secretary of state election total, across six counties including Anderson Osage Allen Woodson and Coffey.
