Laos Begins Releasing U.S. Personal Items
Laos allows shipment of Americans’ personal belongings evacuated from the country, but police restrict and inspect some cargo. A Bird Air DC6 carried 12 tons of household items last week while a large crate on a Bird Air C130 was halted for inspection. U.S. officials say distinguishing personal property from aid purchases is hard, and only suitcases were allowed once evacuees departed. Some items stay behind as authorities define aid purchases.
