Abilene to Dedicate 16-Foot Eisenhower Statue Center
Kansas City industrialist Harry Darby funds a bronze Eisenhower statue for the Eisenhower Center in Abilene. The 16 foot monument, cast in Florence, cost an estimated 300000 to 400000 dollars, with the site pedestal featuring a five star base and inscribed career quotations. Darby, longtime Kansas GOP figure and former U S Senator, chaired the Eisenhower Foundation trustees and helped steer the Center project.
