Ottawa Junior High Rockets Reach The Sky
Ninth grade astronauts from Ottawa Junior High School fired 30 model rockets in a space study led by Lloyd Gladman. Rockets ranged from four to 24 inches in one or two stages, with all but a four inch model recovering intact. The day’s launches occurred near the school, with supervision from Mike Rich and Gary Lytle. The event linked model rocketry to NASA concepts, noting the Shuttle’s returnable, reusable nature.
