Resurrection City Faces Cold Wet Day Of Protests

Washington AP reports Resurrection City's residents endured a damp, muddy, frigid day as hunger and health concerns grew. About 150 marchers from the Poor People's Campaign walked to the Agriculture Department demanding surplus food be used for domestic hunger. Reverend Ralph Abernathy met with leaders while George Wiley arranged observers to track Congressman Wilbur Mills. A separate rally outside Mills's apartment drew about 75 participants as weather worsened. Medical officials warned of flu risk and urged quick vaccination for camp children. Tijerina and Abernathy later described a constructive, if partial, accord between Black and Spanish-speaking groups.
