Residents of Gardner vote on two special bond measures in today’s election. One would issue 100000 dollars for extending and enlarging the water works system, the other 5000 dollars to acquire land for a city park. Gardner’s population stands at 1014, up nearly 500 in six years.

The Ottawa Junior High ninth graders were promoted to Senior High in a ceremony at the Senior High auditorium. A list names 147 students who will be sophomores next September including Raymond Adcock Robert Allen Deana Ames Vera Ames David Anderson Kathleen Archer Joe Arnold Larry Arnold and many others. The event marked the transition of a large class to the upper school.
WASHINGTON Marion B. Folsom undersecretary of the Treasury was reported likely to be nominated soon to replace Oveta Culp Hobby as secretary of health, education and welfare. Mrs Hobby declined to comment on imminent departure from the Cabinet.
Robert Lowell Cox aged 20 and Patricia Ann Greaves aged 18, both of Wellsville, obtained marriage licenses. The couple plan to wed following the required waiting period and local civil procedures. The records list their full names and ages as part of the public notice.

Funeral services for Nell T. Pattie who died in Chicago Wednesday night were held there. The body will be brought by train to Garnett Sunday evening and taken to the Farris Funeral Home. Graveside services are planned in Garnett between 2 and 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Los Angeles where Garageman Jack Fradkin chased an out of control car down West Adams Boulevard and found Hubert L. Weiss dead behind the wheel. Weiss, 72, collapsed as the car sped with his foot jammed on the accelerator. Fradkin steered away traffic, turned off ignition, but Weiss died apparently of a heart attack.
