Kaw Valley Parachute Club draws students from three universities
About 15 members from Ottawa University Baker University and the University of Kansas form the Kaw Valley Parachute Club. Training lasts six to eight hours before initial jumps from 3 000 to 7 500 feet. Safety gear and $40 costs are highlighted. Co founder Dick Mauk notes safety as a priority and the club owns its own airplane piloted by Gary Collins. Dodson Aviation donates facility use at Ottawa Municipal Airport. Even a broken leg hasn’t dampened a member’s zeal to jump again.
