Kansas lawmakers split an immigration plan
Kansas Republican senators divided over a sweeping Senate immigration reform bill. Sen. Sam Brownback supported the measure, which passed 62 to 36, arguing a practical plan to address illegal immigration and bring people out of the shadows. Sen. Pat Roberts opposed, criticizing weak border security and convoluted proposals. The bill now must reconcile House and Senate versions after the House passed a harsher measure.
