Markets dip as oil fears weigh on Wall Street
Markets in New York fell as worries about higher oil prices and a lack of strong economic news dampened sentiment. The Dow slipped 29.59 to 9928.84 while S&P 500 eased to 1091.89 and the Nasdaq dropped to 1915.75 as investors weighed oil costs, Iraq policy, and a steady consumer confidence reading. Overseas markets also declined with Japan, Britain, Germany, and France posting losses. Heinz reported nearly double quarterly profits to 196.5 million, yet shares fell 0.37 to 36.69 amid doubts about lasting dollar effects on overseas sales. Local grain prices were posted for several markets.
