Salvation Army Brass Stunned By Scandal
A two year federal probe into the Salvation Army second hand clothing network leads to charges of payoffs by Dumont Export Corp and its officers. The information accuses the firm of conspiring with Salvation Army officers to secure favored clothing purchases and defrauding 11 countries and shipping firms. Officials say audits found no irregularities in Army books and that Dumont represented a small fraction of rag sales.
