A's edge Senators 6 5 to end five game skid

Kansas City Athletics snap a five game losing streak by defeating the Washington Senators 6 to 5 in Kansas City. Pete Burnside forced home Jerry Lumpe with the bases loaded in the ninth for the winning run. Controversial rookie Jim Archer pitched despite three unearned runs due to infield errors. Archer had been moved to the rotation by order of owner Charley Finley after bullpen duty. The A’s tied it at 4 with two seventh inning runs, but Washington grabbed a 5-4 lead in the eighth on mistimed plays. Harry Bright’s infield speed and Coot Veal’s bunt produced the run, while Leo Posada started the ninth with a single and scored on Haywood Sullivan’s double.
