Three Oil Firms Cited For Theft

TOPEKA AP Three oil firms face hearings Thursday to show cause why licenses to export or distribute gasoline should not be revoked. Two more firms have hearings on June 7 as part of a theft probe involving the Coffeyville Coop Refinery. The Revenue Department accuses firms or their employees of stealing thousands of gallons and mentions 13 criminal charges. Firms listed for Thursday are Fullerton Oil Co. Sarcoxie Mo Branor Oil Co. Independence and High Service Station Baxter Springs. June 7 hearings target Knight Oil Co. Springfield Mo and Lee's Service Station Coffeyville. Attorney Clarence Malone says there is reason to believe Cranor Oil and Night's Service Station received stolen gasoline without paying state tax, though owners may not have known. Missouri officials reportedly say Fullerton bought gasoline from Coffeyville Co-Op without proper manifest. Firms licensed to deal in gasoline must insure the state against tax losses.
