Vulture and Turtle Standoff Highlights Rural Wildlife
A half dozen turkey vultures circle a live ornate box turtle on a southeast Kansas road in a patient standoff. The biologist notes box turtles survive long, but slow speed and road traffic constant threats. He rescues the turtle for release and uses the moment to teach Kansas wildlife heritage to students. Moran finished fourth in the 800 at district action with a 1 53 7 time earning a trip to Texas. Willie Hubbard battled injuries but placed second in the 100 at districts with 10 75, while Holmes qualified in high jump at 6-8 1 2 and long jump at 23-4 1 2. Holmes, a surprise in season form, makes nationals for NAIA Division I and II.
