Watergate ties politics to security in Nixon remarks
Washington AP reports President Nixon acknowledged unethical and possibly illegal actions by national security personnel involved in his 1972 re election campaign while insisting he did not authorize campaign wrongdoing. He said security measures were misused in Watergate and pledged greater vigilance. He noted different views among aides blurred lines between security and politics and that some sought to protect administration goals rather than public responsibility.

Trade Picture Gets Brighter in April Surplus
Washington AP The United States posted its first April trade surplus in 18 months with exports at record highs for a third straight month and imports down for a second month. Exports surpassed imports by 196.3 million dollars aided by reduced Canadian imports and a boom abroad. Dent cautioned the surplus may not signal a permanent shift though the year’s first four months ran at a 1.9 billion dollar annual deficit.
