Kansas Half of Interstate Routes Near July Completion
Kansas officials stated half of the state share of the National Interstate System will be completed and opened to traffic by July 1. Kansas has 801.1 miles in the program, including 187.6 miles of the Turnpike, with 182.8 miles of the system already built to four and six lane standards. An additional 26.8 miles, 20.8 on I-70 in Gove County and six on I-66 in Wabaunsee, are expected ready by July 1, along with 25 miles in various stages of construction. Plans call for 76 more miles during fiscal year 1963. Interstate 70 will span 2,203 miles from Washington, D.C., to the West Coast, with Kansas sections connecting Topeka, Kansas City, and other points.
