Jewish Parents To Keep Catholic Born Foster Child
Florida Governor LeRoy Collins granted sanctuary to Jewish foster parents Melvin and Gladys Ellis for 6 year old Hildy McCoy, born to an unwed Catholic mother. The case, sparked by a Massachusetts custody challenge over religious faith, centers on the child's right to be wanted and loved by her guardians. The governor called the kidnapping charge synthetic and emphasized parental love and care as the core issue.
