Spahn loses bid to ban book on career

Former baseball star Warren Spahn had his bid to prohibit publication of The Warren Spahn Story rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court. The decision, overturning a New York ruling that barred distribution, awarded Spahn $10,000 in damages. The court linked the ruling to a prior privacy case and allowed publication unless there is proven falsity or reckless disregard for the truth. The publisher and author argued the work was nondefamatory and contained no intent to mislead. Spahn, later managing Tulsa in the Pacific Coast League, held 363 major league wins, the most by any left-hander.
