Kansas Pines Grow Into Budget Christmas Industry
Kansas shows a budding pine tree industry with plantings across Riley Geary and other counties. State forester Harold Gallaher predicts a $2 million annual enterprise as home owners order Scotch and Austrian pines from 1957 plantings. Local growers like Ira Wheeler Fred and Tony Burre and many others expand holdings, while the El Dorado chamber runs a 5,000 tree demonstration.
