Air Force Airman Wesley J. Bates has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas. He is the son of Valerie J and William K Fisher of Ottawa.

Army Reserve Pvt Jacob A Akes completes basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. He is son of David and Kittie Akes of Richmond. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Michael E Chavez reports for duty with the Precommissioning Detachment O Kane in San Diego California. He joined the Navy in April 1984 and is Osage City High School class of 1975 alumnus.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association calls for volunteers to work as counselors at a Perry summer camp for one week each session June 13 to 19 and July 11 to 17. Volunteers 16 or older assist children with neuromuscular diseases, push wheelchairs, help with grooming and feeding, and support activities such as swimming horseback riding arts and crafts and canoeing. Camp director Justin Rolenbrander praises the program as a highlight offering confident growth and friendships.
