Volunteers Push Size Of PP Set
Washington AP reports volunteers working late into the night more than doubled the Poor People Campaign settlement in Resurrection City U S A to about halfway toward the 3000 resident target at West Potomac Park. SCLC president Ralph Abernathy planned a daylong strategy meeting with staff to map demonstrations and timing while rain prevented a planned Capitol march.

Spock and followers go on trial for draft evasion conspiracy
Dr Benjamin Spock and four others face trial in U S District Court on charges of conspiring to counsel young men to evade the draft. Co defendants include Yale chaplain William Sloane Coffin Harvard student Michael Ferber New York author Mitchell Goodman and Marcus Raskin co director of the Institute for Political Studies in Washington. Indicted January 5 the case centers on acts said to oppose the U S Selective Service System and raises questions of protest versus criminal conspiracy and First Amendment protection. Spock could face up to five years in prison and a 10 000 dollar fine.
