Iraqi Governing Council Head Killed in Baghdad Car Bombing
The head of Iraq’s Governing Council, Izza dine Saleem, was killed in a suicide car bombing near a checkpoint outside coalition headquarters in central Baghdad. A sarin nerve agent shell exploded near a U.S. military convoy, wounding two experts. no others were hurt. Saleem was a Shiite leader and top U.S. appointee, and his death comes weeks before the planned handover of sovereignty. The attack was claimed by the Arab Resistance Movement, with al Zarqawi-linked tactics suspected.
