Reader Letters on Courtesy and Language Life
A reader argues good manners cross gender lines and shows concern for everyday kindness. A second writer recounts bilingual upbringing in France and advises bilingual home practice for children, while a third shares irritation at gum popping and other tics. Ann Landers responds that bilingual children can thrive with mixed-language input and that gum popping annoys her, while the Hayward reader adds emphasis on immediate rebuke for such annoyances.
