No-Hits Royals Ryan Bad Only In Warming Up

Nolan Ryan pitched the Angels first no hitter of the season a 12 strikeout gem after a rough start last Friday. He overcame a near miss from Amos Otis in the ninth inning and earned praise for bearing down in the White Sox shelling prior. Royals pressure peaked in the eighth but Ryan closed strong. In other AL games Milwaukee beat Cleveland in 17 innings while Minnesota and Chicago won, with several rainouts. NL scores featured St Louis, Chicago, Mets and others.

Ryan Throws First Angel No Hitter in Kansas City

California Angels beat Kansas City 3 0 in a game that marked Nolan Ryan's first major league no hitter and the first ever pitched in Kansas City for him. Jeff Torborg, the Angels catcher, completed his third no hitter catch tying a club record. Oliver provided power with a first inning RBI single and a sixth inning homer off Bruce Dal Canton as Bill Singer earlier and Sandy Koufax share the same feat Torborg caught.
