County weighs new deferred compensation plan option

Franklin County commissioners and department heads met with Beth Miller of Public Employees Benefits Systems in Columbus to discuss offering county employees a new deferred compensation plan. The Kansas Association of Counties endorses the firm, used by 56 Kansas counties. The plan lets employees choose how salary deductions are invested, from fixed annuities to mutual funds and life insurance, with minimums of 20 dollars per month and a maximum of 7500 dollars per year. The county already has a plan, used by about 25 of 170 full time staff, and the commissioners prefer consolidating to a single plan after department heads report a recommendation.
