Number Visiting Parks Soars By LOUISE COOK Associated Press Writer
Gasoline costs and long lines keep many Americans home this summer yet the National Park System offers varied sites beyond famous parks. In 1975 visits reached 239 million and rose to 283 million last year, with fees from free to $9 per person and camping charges up to $4 per site. The Golden Eagle passport costs $10 and covers the holder and a companion, while the Golden Age passport is free for those 62 and over for lifetime use.
