Mayo Clinic doctors separate conjoined twins in seven-hour surgery
In Rochester Minnesota Mayo Clinic surgeons completed a seven hour operation to separate 5 month old Abbigail and Isabelle Carlsen who were joined at the chest and abdomen. The twins shared livers a diaphragm and pancreas and a portion of intestine with both girls facing a 90 to 95 percent survival chance. About 30 medical team members participated as Amy and Jesse Carlsen of Fargo N D assisted in preparations.
