Europe Still Site For Confrontation By Adm Ashworth
Vice Adm. Frederick L. Ashworth, new commander of the U S 6th Fleet, says Europe remains the arena for possible major clash with the Communists and stresses the fleet's deterrent power to prevent war. He notes American control in peacetime, autonomy from shore installations, and hopes for continued French cooperation as the fleet operates in the Mediterranean with two carriers, cruisers, destroyers, submarines and about 25 000 men.
