Pomona man Lawrence A. Dyer to be laid to rest

Graveside services for Lawrence A. Dyer 89 of Pomona will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wheelawn Cemetery Pomona. He died this morning at Village West. The family will greet friends 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Dengel and Son Mortuary. A full obituary will be published later.

Corrections involve misidentified names in Ottawa planning ruling

The Ottawa story corrects individuals: Clint Burkdoll of Burkdoll Construction linked to Sugar Creek subdivision was misidentified, and Shaun Perry did not accuse Jason Riggin of protest after Kevin Jones' firing. Riggin resigned, not in protest. Also Hit Pat el spelled incorrectly. he now operates the Villager Inn.

FBI says Luke Helder described an elaborate plan to bomb mailboxes in five states and to form a smiley face pattern on a map. He claimed 18 bombs in Illinois Iowa Nebraska Colorado and Texas and spoke of dying or going to prison for the plan.

A study based on Finnish nomad church and family records finds mothers’ lifespans shortened by about 34 weeks per son while a daughter who reaches adulthood adds years. Researchers note baby sons place greater physical demands on mothers, contributing to shorter lives, with daughters providing a longevity benefit.

Finnish researchers analyzed Sami church family records from 1640 to 1870, showing mothers bearing sons tended to die earlier. On average each son shortened a mother’s lifespan by about 34 weeks, while daughters extended longevity. Modern medicine may lessen these effects.

Philadelphia arson charge in classroom paper burning incident

In Philadelphia a history teacher Diane Montelius, 31, was charged with arson after allegedly threatening students with reading a newspaper and then burning it in class. One student was treated for smoke inhalation as administrators say she will move to a non teaching role during the investigation. In Eugene Oregon a naked burglar was captured after his driver’s license was found in his pants left at the scene. David Spencer Clark Jr. 20, was charged with first degree burglary.
