Kansas businesses and farmers file record bankruptcy surge
In Kansas the number of bankruptcies rose sharply with 4,365 filings last year and expectations to top 5,000 in 1985. Officials cite the agricultural downturn and economy as causes while Topeka and Wichita offices deal with heavier caseloads. Chapter 11 filings have doubled as firms seek reorganizations amid widespread financial trouble.
