Secret Coal Talks Drag On Amid Regional Violence Reports
The renewed coal strike talks extended into a second day with no clear signs of progress. UMW officials reiterated demands including restoring a 1.90 per ton pension royalty and equal wages for non union subcontractors, while district elections threaten a quick settlement. Separately, weekend shootings near Pilgrim, Kentucky and a vandalism spree in Bellaire, Ohio sparked investigations, with investigators probing possible links to a missing woman and a fatal bar shooting in Willamette River area cases.
