Ottawa crew fights moisture in long telephone cable

An aging Ottawa crew led by Ed Young fights water intrusion in 55 miles of cable using a 150 cubic feet per hour compressor and a cool dry air system. They monitor leaks with air pressure alarms, aiming to keep 2 pounds per square inch at end points to protect 10,800 wires across Ottawa and nearby towns. Despite storms, wear, and occasional animal damage from squirrels, the program expands to Olathe Paola and Atchison as preventive maintenance.
