Grass Carp a boon for ponds say farmers in region
The White Amur grass carp can clear an acre pond of vegetation in a few years and will starve in a clear pond. In Camp Chippewa ponds advisers stocked Amurs with 200 catfish. Windle of Neosho Rapids ships from Lonoke Arkansas at 4.50 each. The fish spawn only under certain conditions and cannot be caught on a line. Amurs can live 10 11 years weigh 60 pounds or more and have been used in Garnett City Lakes since 1977.

Fruit Trees Ready For Sprays
Fruit trees at petal fall need sprays to curb pests. Use Captan or Benlate for diseases and diazinon or methoxychlor for insects, with 10 day interval follow ups. All purpose sprays help but don’t cover all problems. cedar apple rust requires Zineb or ferbam on apples from pink bloom to June 1. Jonathan, Golden Delicious, Wealthy, and Lodi are highly susceptible. Stone fruits need trunk treatments with lindane or thiodan starting mid May in southern Kansas.
