Kansas Legislature advances redistricting and tax plan

In Topeka the Legislature finished work on a redistricting bill and a constitutional property tax amendment, sending both to Gov. Finney. The tax amendment would let commercial property owners pay less tax, while the redistricting bill redraws state House and Senate districts. The wrapup session continues amid unresolved education and social services budgets nearing $6.5 billion, including a record $1.49 billion education appropriation linked to a school finance plan.

Ottawa district hopeful as state school finance plan advances

Superintendent Don Duncan says Ottawa USD would gain about 844 361 in state aid and cut the mill levy by 24.92 mills if the governor signs the new school finance bill. He expects the district budget around 8.3 million and would invest in teachers salaries aides counselors supplies and technology. If vetoed the district would push to override the governor.

Settlement Quietly Sheds Light On RMH-HMP Pact

Ransom Memorial Hospital has saved about 46000 in past due management fees and severed ties with Hospital Management Professionals. Attorney Tom Bornholdt released a written settlement from the open records request, noting the agreement speaks for itself and that further comment was not provided. The pact ends the Brentwood firm’s contract, with only one term disclosed that Bob Bregant could return to Ransom if desired.
