Similar mailbox bombs traced to same source in Midwest
FBI said pipe bombs found in Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska were nearly identical. Six people were injured in Illinois and Iowa. Nebraska bombs were detonated safely. A typewritten anti government note warned of more “attention getters.”

Up to 6 inches of snow hindered travel across western and central North Dakota as a winter weather advisory remained in effect for northwest and north central regions. McLean and Williams counties faced complete travel bans, with numerous reports of vehicles sliding into ditches. Snow also touched parts of northeastern Montana as temperatures rose to 28 degrees in Bismarck by midmorning and accumulations reached Halliday and McLean County. Officials considered building new jail before deadly blaze
In Bakersville North Carolina officials had discussed replacing the 46 year old Mitchell County Jail due to money problems a new plan was not completed. The Friday night fire killed eight inmates and injured thirteen as smoke and heat blocked jailers from opening all cells. Investigators consider a storage room with wiring and a heater as a possible cause while smoke detectors existed and sprinklers were absent.
