Kansas college funding plan shifts out of district tuition
The Kansas Legislature approved a four year phase out of out district tuition for the states 19 community colleges. Counties will pay 18 per credit hour in 2001 then 12 in 2002 and 6 in 2003 while the lost revenue is replaced by state aid. Franklin County anticipated a 250000 payment last year and expects savings in coming years as the shift limits local budget uncertainty. The plan aims to improve budgeting for counties and college planning under the Kansas Higher Education Coordination Act.
