Well-watered wheat crop on 1994 Wheat Tour in Kansas
The 1994 Wheat Tour sponsored by the Wheat Quality Council reports soil moisture is plentiful as about 60 participants travel 360 miles across northern Kansas from Manhattan to Colby. An average yield of 36.3 bushels per acre was observed with western routes averaging 38.6 and eastern routes lower, while overall weather prevented winterkill or greenbug findings though disease may loom after rain. The tour included a KSU facility walk through Throckmorton Hall, noting expansion to 160,000 square feet and a large green area for year-round glasshouse crop production.
