Pomona High School girls capture the Burlingame Invitational with seven events and 147 points, eight ahead of Marais des Cygnes Valley. Coach Ned Parker notes this is the third title in five meets and that lineup shuffles were used to help earn letters.
Aaron Guiel homered on a 3-2 pitch from Terry Adams in the 10th inning, giving the Kansas City Royals a 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays after a blown ninth-inning lead. Jimmy Gobble pitched 8 2/3 solid innings, Nate Field earned the win, and Jaime Cerda earned the save as KC snapped a four-game skid.
In the seventh grade, Wellsville placed in multiple events at the Eudora Invitational, posting standout finishes. Individual results include Austen Moore and Chase McCullough leading sprints, with Derek Poor and Aaron Patton scoring in distance events and relays. Team scores show Eudora, Perry-Lecompton, Tonganoxie tied at 96 points.
West Franklin hammered MecLouth through a season-opening burst and repeated with 13-2 and 9-2 wins in Pomona. Zack Crooks had three hits and two runs in the opener, while Dillon Frack slugged a homer driving in two. Oswalt pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts as the 11-4 Falcons head to Central Heights.
Central Heights Vikings defeated Humboldt Cubs 18-3 in game one and 9-0 in game two. Whitney Thompson hit a three run triple to spark the eruption while she finished with four RBIs and two hits, and Kristy Hollon added five RBIs.
Jinny Bones Heather Gant and Melissa Horne each drove in two runs as CH softball swept the night with three hits. Breanna Rossman earned the win with a six hitter and one strikeout. Sara Kratzberg struck out four in a one hitter in game two. Holton Bones Ross each had two hits. KaCee Thompson Gant Jorne and Adkins contributed hits and Adkins scored on a sac fly as Central Heights heads to Jayhawk Linn Thursday.
